Every day in a hair loss studio is an adventure. You never know what you will be dealing with! It’s not just replacement. It encompasses all sorts of hair problems and emotions of loss and self-worth.
People come in and show us the thinning of their hair, their former crowning glory! It is devastating for them. By the time they walk through my door, they want a solution that can not just replace the loss but make their hair what it once was.
Many come to us through their dermatologist. We are recommended frequently! I have sent many people that have come in the door to a dermatologist to begin their journey to the source of their problem. It can just be aging, medication, or often emotional stress. I usually start a consultation by asking them to tell me their story. What is going on? I let them vent. It’s very tough for them.
Some come in because of Cancer treatment, and they need a temporary solution. I usually recommend a nice easy, lightweight synthetic wig. No muss or fuss! We give them tips on scalp care and what’s is available from the American Cancer Society free of charge. There is quite a bit out there for free that is offered to people for cancer treatment.
There is also the client that will be long term. Someone who requires the making of a custom designed hair replacement. This will require their commitment to ongoing styling help.
We have many women who need these services, but men are the ones we have in the largest numbers. We have long-term clients through many, many years.
So, in one day, we see it all. The emotional roller coaster of hair loss.
